About Pierce

Pierce College is one of nine campuses of the Los Angeles Community College District. As a community college, Pierce is part of the post-secondary level of education in the United States. The college is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, a nationally recognized accrediting agency. Pierce is a comprehensive college with more than 100 disciplines being taught to approximately 18,000 students each semester.

Pierce College has one of the highest transfer rates in southern California, and many of our students transfer to the University of California system, the California State University system, and private universities, such as the University of Southern California, to earn bachelors degrees. Pierce has a solid reputation for being a student-friendly institution, offering students high-quality and challenging education that will prepare them for university or vocational work. Pierce students benefit from smaller classes sizes and lower tuition than a four-year university.

Pierce College is setting the pace in community college education. The creation of the 15-week semester plan has led to higher enrollment, better retention and better learning. With two five-week summer sessions and one five-week winter session, students are enjoying the opportunity to move more quickly through the curriculum with greater success academically.

Pierce College is located in the upscale Woodland Hills, a thriving suburb of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley. The campus, located in sunny Southern California, is just 30 minutes away from downtown Los Angeles and close to Malibu beaches, Hollywood entertainment and the theme parks of Universal Studios, Magic Mountain, Disneyland, and Knott's Berry Farm.

The summers are warm and the winters are mild, which enables students to explore the area year-round. Students can take trips to ski resorts in the local mountains or visit Palm Springs in the desert, which are just two hours away. Picturesque Santa Barbara and San Diego's Sea World are also just hours away.

Los Angeles offers a variety of cultural experiences. Los Angeles offers the cultural centers of Chinatown, Koreatown, and Little Tokyo. Students can also see performances at one of the many theatrical venues including Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in the Music Center and the Kodak Theater, the new home of the Academy Awards. Also conveniently located are the major movie studios of Universal, Warner Bros., Disney, and Dreamworks.

Transfer Opportunities

No honors student from Pierce College has ever been denied admission to University of California, Los Angeles UCLA). Pierce College students transfer to California State University Northridge (CSUN) in greater numbers than any other college. In addition, Pierce students who transferred to UCLA graduated with a higher GPA than any other students from any other transfer college.
